The pub is always at, or near, capacity. The Bistro is pricey enough and wine prices are no spoil. So why does this pub, year in/out work? It is the pub epitome of KISS. Simple things, executed well and never underestimate the I-know-what-I’m-getting-there-factor. Steaks, salad, chips, red wine. Over the years that order is repeated many times there and over such a timeframe who knows how many tonnes of beer or litres of red have been consumed. They reach a consistency that word of mouth is their marketing ally. The Bistro always looks pub great; the bar is a ripper and it is in there that the food pricing represents real value.

Having recently moved to the area this has quickly become my local of choice. Eat in the public bar a few times a week and treat myself to a steak from the restaurant at least once a fortnight. Friendly staff and an old school pub with lots of regulars. Good food done very well!

Dropped in for a Monday night feed, and what a feed. A crisp cold beer, a fat juicy and perfectly cooked steak, and a ripper atmosphere. Traditional pub with great steaks, and at a price which anyone can afford, do yourself a favor……steak please.

have eaten at the railway mroe times than i can remember, fanastic steak!!! u must try it and callamari!! great service large plasma tv’s to catch the sport on. Staff are friendly and engaging with customers.

This place is truly remarkable keeping it nice and simple quality steaks at a good price. I had a aged 350gm scotch fillet at $38, had to pay extra for the sauce and delicious green peppercorn sauce but was worth it. Steak was tender and tasty and served with homemade fat chip’s. Service was fast and friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
I will be going back.

Famous for its stupendous steaks, this highly popular sports pub proves that pub food need not be an afterthought – here it’s the main event. In the Railway Club Hotel’s a la carte dining area Owen’s Restaurant, the spotlight sits firmly on authentically Aussie, MSA-graded, tender and well-aged Top Cut quality beef. Diners can even opt to select their preferred cuts from a display fridge.
Naturally, the menu is packed with juicy char-grilled treasures including the grass-fed Tasmanian Cape Grim beef in porterhouse, rump, eye fillet, scotch fillet and rib eye cuts, accompanied by chunky chips on the side. Also offering kangaroo sirloin and grilled flounder, the restaurant’s menu is a sight to behold. For those whose jaws need a pause, marvel at the pub’s very own wine cellar, offering an extensive array of varietals from across Australia, New Zealand and France. Prefer beer? Then the main bar is the place to go for a schooner and a bistro-style parma or burger.
Went to The Railway Club Hotel the other night after a friend in the area recomended it. What a fantastic old school pub. Comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff and the best steak I have eaten in years ( and I eat a lot of steaks!) More than I’m used to paying for a pub meal but in the end it was well worth the extra.

I’m writing to express our appreciation following a most enjoyable and memorable evening at the Railway Club Hotel last night.
It was a family celebration of my wife’s birthday – She turns 70 years of age today. After an initial visit to the Hotel a couple of months ago where we enjoyed the meal, we decided to try it once again with the family in attendance for Judy’s birthday. Our three children and their partners plus a couple who are close friends were there.
We love good food – Our second son has been a top rating International Chef – and we are always keen to try new places.
From the time we walked in to the warm inviting atmosphere on a bleak winter’s evening to be welcomed by the friendly staff, it was a night we will not forget for a long time.
The service was very good and the food was exceptional. The meat display in the refrigerated cabinet is a most impressive feature and worth coming just to look at it! Each dish we ordered was cooked and presented to perfection and there were even gasps as we saw the whole flounders come out. I had the lamb’s fry and bacon as an entree which was delicious, and the flounder even had me floundering to finish it and that has never happened before!
It sounds as though I’m raving on a bit, but we all came away feeling it was one of the nicest hotel meals we have ever eaten and there have been many over the years. There was even a reluctance among the family to leave after we had finished, which I’d never seen before. You’ve obviously found a wonderful recipe for running a successful Hotel. Good sized serves of top quality food cooked the way it should be in very pleasant surroundings.
My wife was thrilled with the whole evening and we came home feeling extremely satisfied that we couldn’t have done any better.
Well done and congratulations. I’m sure we will return.
